This 12 day trek in August-September 2007 permitted us to discover the famous Marka valley and the more remote areas of Dat valley, before crossing the wild high plateau area between Tsokar and Tsormoriri lakes. Our team was composed of Puntsok, our guide, Jorge, his assistant and Tsering, our horseman with four horses. Thanks to them for the great ambiance, the excellent food, the "good mooning" and the quality of the service. |

We started by driving by jeep from Leh to Henaskut. The road goes through Basgo, which is one of the ancient capitals of Ladakh and is worth seeing: the ruins of a castle surrounded by violet rocks dominates the green fields of the village. We also made a short detour to visit Alchi where you can admire the fantastic and well preserved wood paintings in the monasteries. Then the road passes through Lamayuru and its amazing limestone landscape before going up to the Fotu La, a very impressive pass on the road to Kargil. After a few kilometres, the jeep left the "main road" and engaged in a narrow gorge. |

Here we are! After a stunning one our flight from Delhi over the Himalaya, we are landing in Leh with plenty of plans to discover the land and people that we only knew from Olivier Fölmi great pictures taken about 20 years ago. Friends strongly recommended us the guide Tsering Norboo and his trek agency Skyhightreks. From the very first moments we met with Norboo at the Leh airport we felt we were "in good hands". Now two years later and miles away in Switzerland we are more than happy to have Norboo as one of our best friends. |

We spent our Christmas Eve 2005 in Amdo’s Café & Restaurant at Leh, one of the few restaurants also open during the winter. After almost four days of acclimatization we felt quite well prepared for a wintery trekking tour through Markha valley together with Tsering Norboo, whom we discovered in Internet. |

In the year 2000, eight enthusiastic New Zealanders set off for five weeks trekking in Ladakh. The plan was to do a shorter 'test' trek to see how everyone would handle the altitude, then follow on with a longer two week trek. It was the first time in Ladakh for most of the group and we didn't want to risk anyone getting altitude sickness in remote areas with no access to medical care. Our guide - Tsering Norboo - suggested a five day trek from Lamayuru to Chiling. Both are accessible by road and the trek includes two major passes, so everyone would have a chance to see how they went. |
